Position Objective:

To support Mercy For Animals’ corporate outreach by reviewing the most current research on farmed animal welfare, determining the highest animal welfare standards, and advocating for those standards, with a primary focus on Latin America and Brazil

Primary Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Conducting comprehensive reviews of current scientific literature on farmed animal welfare, including animal behavior in natural and artificial conditions
  • Drafting white papers on welfare issues primarily concerning farmed animal welfare in Latin America and Brazil
  • Developing data-oriented strategies for measuring variables that affect farmed animal welfare to determine priority issues and best practices
  • Determining least cruel production and slaughter practices for farmed animals with a focus on Latin America and Brazil
  • Drafting MFA’s recommended farmed animal welfare standards for the animal species most farmed, with a focus on Latin America and Brazil
  • Meeting with business leaders alongside MFA’s director of corporate outreach to advocate for MFA’s recommended farmed animal welfare standards
  • Attending conferences and presenting on behalf of MFA on farmed animal welfare issues

Position Requirements:         

  • Degree in zoology, animal science, veterinary medicine, or related discipline with a preferred focus on farmed animals
  • Strong English language skills required; ability to also speak Spanish and/or Portuguese is a very strong plus

Position Objective:

Manage Mercy For Animals’ direct mail and digital fundraising channels as well as various revenue-generating programs with a goal of raising $2.8 million toward MFA’s annual campaign in 2017

Primary Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Work with direct marketing team to implement MFA’s annual direct marketing program, including digital and direct mail campaigns
  • Serve as liaison between direct marketing team and relevant MFA staff to implement campaigns
  • Edit and produce email appeals for breaking investigations or victory announcements when deemed necessary
  • Manage and grow sustainer giving program for maximum growth and retention

Position Objective:

To oversee the financial management of Mercy For Animals’ global operations through localized partnerships with accounting firms and regional staff; and to serve as primary liaison and workflow manager between staff, auditors, and accountants in the U.S. and Canada

Primary Responsibilities and Duties: 

  • Prepare budgets and forecasts, analyze financial performance, and monitor cash flow for a budget of up to $16 million (Revenue streams include membership and foundation support, and individual and corporate giving in six primary countries of operation.)
  • Design, implement, and manage systems and procedures to support project planning, budgeting, and tracking to ensure reconciliation and compliance with financial policies
  • Support international staff and accounting firms with best practices, troubleshooting, and monthly reconciliation

Primary Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Collaborate closely with the director of video production
  • Work with the director of video production on preparing undercover investigative footage for public release in the U.S. and Canada

Position Objective:

To work with the Media Production Manager in creating and distributing online educational videos related to farmed animals, factory farming, plant-based eating, and related topics, and to assist with other media and writing-related tasks as needed.

Primary Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Assist in creating compelling, viral-worthy educational videos by writing video scripts and compiling assets, including Mercy For Animals’ undercover footage, stock footage, and other content
  • Brainstorm creative video ideas and work with the Media Production Manager and Education Department video editors to bring them to fruition
  • Ensure all videos are quickly and accurately modified and translated for distribution on MFA’s international social platforms

  • Liaise with other animal protection nonprofits, as well as other organizations, companies, and outlets, to broaden the distribution of MFA’s videos beyond its social channels
  • Create and maintain a categorized library of MFA’s most compelling video footage for use in educational videos
  • Search for existing online videos that align with MFA’s messaging to share on MFA’s social media channels
  • Assist in coordinating MFA’s volunteer writers group, oINK, and work to grow participation in the program
  • Assist with other writing and media projects as assigned by the Media Production Manager
  • Keep informed of online video and social media trends
  • Keep informed of local and national issues, research, and advocacy work related to farmed animal welfare and vegan/vegetarian eating

Position Objective:

To oversee all Mercy For Animals public relations initiatives, including creation, management, and implementation of PR campaigns and strategies, in order to enrich MFA’s position in the public eye; to supervise PR staff; and to act as spokesperson for the organization when needed

  • Work with all MFA vice presidents as needed to develop fresh story ideas, media pitches, and press releases
  • Build and maintain relationships with media outlets, hard-news journalists, and entertainment journalists in the United States and Latin America
  • Issue press releases and follow up with media contacts via email or phone
  • Research media trends and make recommendations regarding effective communication strategies

Position Objective: To assist MFA’s legal advocacy efforts in India by advocating on behalf of farmed animals and ensuring the organization’s legal compliance in all aspects of its operations 

Primary Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Provide legal support to the investigations department by conducting necessary legal research into all relevant laws and regulations and addressing any legal issues arising during the course of investigations
  • Assist in the organization’s requests for criminal prosecutions of animal abusers by reviewing investigative footage, drafting legal petitions, and meeting with and assisting law enforcement
  • Work to advance farmed animal interests through legislation
  • Undertake thorough and accurate legal review of corporate campaign materials
  • Research, develop, and implement proactive legal initiatives, including lawsuits, petitions, and complaints to government agencies
  • Draft and review contracts, leases, and other legal documents
  • Assist the general counsel with governmental compliance and labor and employment issues
  • Handle any other legal issues that may arise during the day-to-day operations of the organization
  • Develop and maintain close working relationships with other animal protection organizations and attorneys in private practice

Position Requirements:

  • Conduct thorough research on various farmed animal welfare issues and agricultural practices and facilities
  • Apply for and obtain employment in the animal agriculture industry, including factory farms, hatcheries, livestock markets, and slaughterhouses
  • Using hidden cameras, thoroughly document conditions and practices in the above-referenced facilities, paying particular attention to animal welfare issues 
  • Maintain daily records and communications with the director of investigations during the course of investigations
  • Review, compile, and transmit footage, photographs, and notes to the director of investigations
  • Retain strict cover and confidentiality regarding all cases and any other sensitive information before, during, and after each case
  • While undercover, meet or exceed all expectations of the agricultural facility while maintaining cover and following all federal and local laws
  • Be available to meet with law enforcement and provide testimony for all legal proceedings resulting from a case
